What is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a progressive, non–invasive treatment that either propels natural mineral crystals onto the surface of the skin, or uses an exfoliating hand piece for gentle epidermal abrasion. By sloughing away these old, dead skin cells, microdermabrasion is able to reveal healthier, younger looking skin.
How is Microdermabrasion performed?
The diamond tip hand piece is continually passed over the skin. The hand piece has a variety of different “heads” which vary in their amount of exfoliation. The microdermabrasion also uses suction to draw the tissue close, which stimulates increased blood supply and circulation. There is no pain associated with this treatment and it can be performed in approximately 30-45 minutes. It is advisable to repeat these treatments to ensure the best results.
When should I consider Microdermabrasion treatments?
Many people wish to restore their skin to a healthier and glowing state. Microdermabrasion is designed to improve the tone and texture to the skin, exfoliate and renew the skin, while also helping with acne, abnormal pigmentation and some acne scarring.
What should I expect after my Microdermabrasion treatment?
Most resurfacing treatments involve some form of downtime ranging from minimal to severe, depending on how invasive the treatment is. That is one of the reasons that microdermabrasion or “microderm” is such a popular option. There is little to no downtime associated with the procedure, and patients can return back to work or school that same day.
