Acne Scar Removal

Acne Scar Removal

Acne can have severe and permanent scarring effects on the skin. Permanent changes that can result from acne include pink scars, brown discolouration, ice pick scars, and rolling or indented scars.

The most important thing is to prevent the scarring before it occurs through effective treatment of the acne by a trained dermatologist before scarring occurs.

Once scars have formed the treatment can be tailored to the specific type of scarring. Discoloured (pink/red/brown) scars are often treated by light based therapies like lasers, photodynamic therapy or intense pulsed light. Superficial scarring may be treated with ablation, such as chemical peels, lasers or dermabrasion. Deeper scars may be improved with ablation or lasers, but may also required surgical treatments or fillers to lift up the indentation. The Most important element of any therapy for scarring is to have the areas evaluated by a professional with experience in all forms of scar management. A customized approach will improve the look and feel of the scarred areas and avoid unnecessary, and often expensive, treatments that delay effective therapy.
